What is Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)?

Registered Massage Therapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario. It involves the assessment and treatment of soft tissues and joints using various hands-on techniques. RMTs are trained professionals who are registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

You do not need a referral to book a massage. However, some insurance companies require one for reimbursement. If you're using extended health benefits, check with your provider.

Do I need to undress for the massage?

Only to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped with sheets at all times, and only the area being worked on will be uncovered. You are welcome to leave on any clothing you prefer.

How often should I come for massage therapy?

It depends on your goals. Some people come weekly for injury recovery or stress relief; others come once a month for maintenance. We can create a treatment plan that works for your schedule and budget.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit will begin with a confidential health history and discussion about your goals for treatment. I’ll do a brief assessment to understand your needs, and then we’ll begin your massage. You’re always in control—your comfort and consent are my top priorities.

Most extended health insurance plans in Ontario cover RMT services. If you have benefits, you can usually submit receipts for reimbursement. Direct billing may be available—please ask in advance.

Does massage therapy hurt?

Some techniques may cause slight discomfort, especially if you have tension or trigger points, but treatment should never be painful. Communication is key—I’ll always check in, and you’re encouraged to speak up at any time.

Can I talk during the massage?

Absolutely—it’s up to you! Some clients like to chat, while others prefer silence to relax. I follow your lead and create a space that feels comfortable for you.
